Cosmetic Surgery to Improve the Appearance of Your Smile

Cosmetic periodontal surgery can be divided into two main categories. The first involves the use of tissue grafting procedures to cover zones of the tooth and root that have been exposed over the years and are now causing self consciousness related to “long looking teeth” or sensitivity of the tooth roots to extreme temperatures or sweet foods. The second type of cosmetic surgery is related to patients who have very “short” looking teeth and who are looking for a way to uncover some of the tooth surface that is limiting the natural look of their smile.

Cosmetic surgery can improve your smile

As you look at someone who has a “great smile”, your eye is attracted, to a great extent, by the dimensions of their face, teeth, and overall appearance. The Golden Proportion is a basic set of rules related to the perfect shape and balance in the face or section of the face being observed. In respect to your teeth, your eye is drawn to the balance between the width and length of the teeth in a smile and when this is out of “balance”, your eye notices that something is not quite right. Drs. Caldwell and Dimmitt are the specialists who are trained to either add missing tissue to compromised smiles or to reduce the excess tissue that is hiding the natural tooth surface that is meant to be showing in your smile. In cases involving tissue recession, root coverage grafing is also used to limit further recession and erosion of the root surface that can continue to develop when the soft root surface is continually exposed to the abrasive forces of toothpaste, tooth brushing, and the flexing forces of clenching. Both of these approaches today offer amazing results that can literally “change your smile” and “improve your self esteem”. This is truly something to Smile About!
